An infographic showing the potential applications of physical computing in smart cities of the future.
The purpose of this project was to present our ideas about applications of physical computing in the real world via a thematic infographic. I decided to focus my infographic on smart cities and the potential applications that physical computing will have on their development. A smart city is a municipality that uses communication technologies and data collection sensors to supply information to the public, and improve the quality government services (Rouse, 2016). The piece I have created features a cityscape that contains a number of common city objects. I have labeled a number of these items and described how these could potentially be implemented in a city of the future. Some of these ideas have already been implemented in some cities, for example, smart traffic lights with infrared sensors are already commonplace throughout the United Kingdom. However others, such as real time medical monitoring, are more of a concept or are very new technologies.
I created the infographic solely using Adobe Illustrator. The .ai file for this infographic can be downloaded here.
